KEY DUTIES
The Deputy Manager will work closely with the Centre Manager, the
Deputy Manager, the Pedagogical leader, the early years, admin,
catering and operations teams; and the Board of Management
EARLY YEAR?S MANAGEMENT
* Ensuring the safety, health and welfare of the children at all
times
* Further developing the early years curriculum
* Ensuring that best early years practice takes place in each room.
* Recognising the needs and diversity amongst our children and
supporting them through creating new environments and play spaces;
purchasing equipment and materials; linking them with our pedagogical
leader; and linking them into the AIM programme or HSE supports
* Shared responsibility with the manager for liaising with other
cr?ches and agencies to ensure best practice in the centre
* Liaising with parents, providing stay and play opportunities for
them, and handling complaints and concerns
* Evaluating the childcare activities and curriculum on a regular
basis
* Actively developing the centre in line with the strategic plan,
the needs of the local community and with legislation and regulations.
STAFF MANAGEMENT (THESE DUTIES ARE SHARED WITH THE MANAGEMENT TEAM)
* Allocating staff to rooms in line with daily attendance of staff
and children
* Shared responsibility with the CE supervisor for conducting
on-site coaching sessions
* Supervising rooms on a daily basis
* Recording daily attendance and allocating annual leave with the
other Deputy Manager
* Supervising the core staff team with the management team
* Managing the induction of new staff members, students and
volunteers
* Shared responsibility with the Manager, Deputy Manager and CE
supervisor for briefing staff on procedural changes
* Liaising with colleges and schools and supervising students in the
centre
* Liaising with Volunteer Ireland and supervising volunteers in the
centre.
HEALTH AND SAFETY (THESE DUTIES ARE SHARED WITH THE HEALTH AND SAFETY
OFFICER)
* Monitoring Health and Safety in the centre. Maintaining equipment
and organizing repairs and replacements
* Establishing and monitoring cleaning and hygiene, HACCP and
security standards.
* Managing and monitoring day to day health and safety issues
FINANCE
* Managing the development budget for equipment, environments and
areas.
* Assisting with wages and time sheets in the absence of the other
Deputy Manager
OTHER TASKS
* Providing a positive role model for staff and ensuring best
practice
* Leading and initiating early years and staff improvement
programmes in consultation with the staff team and as directed by the
Centre Manager
* Taking on the role of Centre Manager in her absence.
* Performing other appropriate duties as decided by the BOM and
Manager
SKILLS/QUALITIES
* A passion for early years, its ongoing development and its key role
in the early education and care of our children
* Excellent leadership and communication skills
* A thorough knowledge of best early years practice and procedures
* A dynamic and creative approach to curriculum development
* An innovative and enthusiastic approach to the development of
environments and how they best support learning for children.

* Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Word, Pro care and Excel
